Pyx, Standards Australia and ICC Partner to Accelerate Universal Data Protocol and UNTP
Pyx Project || Leveraging UNTP to Accelerate a Universal Data Protocol in the Built Environment
Pyx is a UNTP implementation accelerator. What does that mean? What does a UNTP implementation look like? A great example announced at COP29 on November 16, 2024 is set to enhance climate data transparency and operability across the global built environment.
The UN Transparency Protocol (UNTP) is an emerging global standard that provides a secure, decentralised framework for data sharing, allowing cross-border, cross-sector data exchange without a central database.
This has significant implications for the global built environment, which faces data-related obstacles to meeting sustainability targets — eg. data fragmentation, reporting & compliance and data sharing challenges).
To address these issues, Standards Australia and the International Code Council have announced the development of a Universal Data Protocol (UDP) to enable transparent, auditable and verifiable data exchange for effective reporting and compliance across the building and construction industry.
The UDP will be an extension of the broader UNTP, serving as a Sustainability Vocabulary Catalogue (SVC) for the built environment, ensuring data is easily understood across different disciplines or stages of the building lifecycle, across regions and across regulatory environments.
As the project’s UNTP acceleration partner, Pyx is collaborating in the development of the UDP to turn this vision into a reality. In the coming months, we will assist to develop a proof-of-concept of the protocol to demonstrate its application with real world businesses.
The Universal Data Protocol, extending UNTP, will enhance data accessibility and transparency across the building sector, and will foster accountability and innovation in Australia and beyond.
