When it comes to trusted, cross-sector data sharing, interoperability is a challenge. That's what makes this new partnership worth watching.
On the 29th of July 2025, the Government of British Columbia, the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA), and Catena-X Automotive Network announced a joint testing initiative designed to evaluate real-world interoperability using the UN Transparency Protocol (UNTP).
Together, the three partners are testing how their distinct data frameworks across mining permits, automotive supply chains, and labour/environmental standards can interoperate using UNTP-aligned infrastructure.
Why it matters:
- It's a practical step toward cross-border, cross-sector interoperability, one of the most difficult but urgent challenges in global supply chains.
- It connects public and private data governance models, respecting sovereignty while enabling shared frameworks.
- It demonstrates growing momentum behind the UNTP as an accessible, scalable, practical approach to digital trust and traceability.
"This testing case is a clear demonstration that our federated approach can work in practice," said Oliver Ganser, Chairman of the Board. "It can prove that trusted, cross-border data exchange can be achieved by radical collaboration, aligned with national governance and industry needs."
Kudos to the BC Government, Catena-X and the RBA for recognising the potential of the UNTP, and for showing what aligned, cross-sector, cross-border collaboration can look like in practice.
For those following the evolution of the UNTP, this is one to watch.
